Championing sustainability at Exertis

The Exertis UK initiative that’s allows YOU to get involved with sustainability

Across DCC Group, there are endless stories of initiatives taken by businesses at an executive level that are designed to benefit local and wider environments, the planet, and society.

These can include everything from creating sustainable energy solutions, to packaging innovation, and more. But it’s important for those working within DCC businesses to know the ways in which they can personally get involved in making the planet – and the workplace – better. That’s the thought behind Exertis UK’s Sustainability Champion initiative.

What is a Sustainability Champion?

Conceptualised and led by Exertis UK’s Sustainability Manager, Emma Boniface, this initiative is designed to allow everyone across Exertis – regardless of location, role, or seniority – to be involved in our drive for sustainability, and to work together to make changes that benefit our people and the environment.

At Exertis UK, the role of a Sustainability Champion isn’t singular or stringent. The idea of a Sustainability Champion is that individuals throughout the business can contribute as much – or as little – time and energy as they are able to.

Being a Sustainability Champion will look different to every individual, and the role can be adjusted to suit personal priorities, interests, availability, and preferred engagement levels. Regardless of how people engage with the Sustainability Champion role, everyone involved will have the shared mission of making Exertis UK a more sustainable workplace, and doing their bit to make the planet, environment, and society better.

How do I get involved?

At the time of writing, there is no formal application process for the role. Anyone across the business can contact Emma Boniface directly for more information, and discuss how they’d like to engage. From there, it’s up to you to decide your level of involvement and which projects and priorities you focus on in the effort to help our sustainability journey.

“It’s important that throughout our business we have sustainability champions who support in creating and maintaining a successful sustainability culture,” says Emma. “They are passionate about our people, our business and the environment. They support initiatives, and share knowledge and ideas. We already have some who are doing great work, but we would always welcome more.”

While it’s up to businesses to take corporate responsibility and modify their actions and operations to work more sustainably, it’s rewarding for individuals to band together to create a healthy, productive, sustainable environment in the workplace that benefits everyone.

By being a Sustainability Champion, you can contribute to this environment, regardless of who you are, what role you’re in, or where you work.
